City of Mandawa

The city of Mandawa was established in the mid eighteenth century, it was a town occupied by the rich trader families. These traders and their families built huge havelis, enhanced with lovely wall artworks, as a means to beautify their home. In time, their flourishing trade took them beyond to different territories, leaving the delightful havelis in an unattended state. However even time could not take away the eminence of these havelis, and now they have been turned into tourist beckoning spots of the city. The exquisite murals seen all over the havelis of Mandawa in Rajasthan, India, notably change themes with passage of time. In the prior days, folklore commanded the topics of the frescoes, depiction of local legends, hunting and wrestling scenes, and so forth. In the nineteenth century, the social environment was distinctly different with the British Raj, hence the subject mirrored the British effect on the Indian culture. The conventional subjects were traded for automobiles, trains, balloons, phones, gramophones, English men in hunts and portraits of the Haveli owners faultlessly dressed, and so forth.
